This is something I found out during one of my random google searches a while ago! I thought this related to what I wanted to talk around how to make the lives of those around us joyful every day and build up their confidence! I know you would hope that these kind of things would be obvious but I think the little everyday things that you can do can be forgotten about. Some examples of these with further explanations where necessary are:-
If you like something someone else has done, let them know
- This doesn’t just need to be things on social media. It can also be things like the way someone handled a situation, a nice thing someone has done for you or simply what they are wearing that day.
If you have something going spare, think of someone you could use it
- It doesn’t need to be big things. It can be a spare box for someone who is moving or old stationary for someone starting a new job or school year
If you have spare time before an event, offer a hand to help set up
Ask someone to teach you something you would like to be able to
- Or vice versa, offer to teach something to someone else. It can either be a privilege for the teacher to share their knowledge or an honour that someone sees the potential in you to learn
And similarly
Give people the opportunity to do something that they don’t normally do
- For example, asking someone to speak at an event who hasn’t done that before or asking someone to organise something that they haven’t organised before or smaller things like asking someone else to cook the dinner one night! The classic saying of “you never know until you try” is true and it could be a good chance for someone to discover something new about themselves and learn new things. The person might not want to and that’s ok but again its always nice that someone sees potential in you.
This is not an exhaustive list but I hope that this demonstrates that there can be many less extravagant ways that you can bring joy to someone’s life and that it encourages you to think about how you individually can serve others.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope you find it helpful. As always, feel free to get in touch with any questions/feedback/thoughts, I always love to hear it. Stay tuned for the next instalment.
Until next time
Kathryn
