The Latest From the Savanna – May 2020

I thought I would use this instalment to give you a bit of an update on how things are going.

Normally, my mood is quite up and down but since my last post, it has been down for a lot longer than up and it has been a challenge to get to those up moments. One of my biggest problem has been that I struggle to stop worrying and many layers of anxiety are created. For example, I struggle to get to sleep because of my worrying, which then creates more worry about how much sleep I’m getting overall, and then worrying about what that will do to me later in the day. I hate feeling like that and I know that many of the good lifestyle habits that I should be doing like committing to eating better, exercising more and engaging more with the helpful resources that I have come across will help me. However, I have realised more and more recently that my problems run a lot more deeper than I realise and something a lot more serious needs to be done so that in particular, I can engage with things like online cognitive behavioural therapy better.

I have been on anti-depressant medication for a few days now which I hope, in time, will improve my mood and with that my outlook. I have also started some small diet changes like having soya milk more often in my tea which I do have to say reminds me of those cakes with the round bits of coloured icing that you had at birthday parties! There have been some more spinach/fruit smoothies which are nice if you look past the sight of them! I have also been eating slightly less chocolate and I’m not drinking for the time being.

I’m also going to introduce some “guidelines” which mostly revolve around my use of technology. I’m going to focus on things like only being on one screen at a time such as not working on my laptop while listening to music on my phone and being on my phone while watching something. I’m also going to have timed sessions of five minutes at a time on Facebook (not including Messenger) and Instagram and not going over an hour a day. I hope these and other little things which I may talk about another time will help me to feel less anxious.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope you find it helpful. As always, feel free to get in touch with any questions/feedback/comments, I always love to hear it. Stay tuned for the next instalment.

Until next time

K
