Your Giraffeness is Growing Everyday

“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day”

2 Corinthians 4:16

There are many ways that you can see this verse, however, it made me to think about the mental process I go through to keep moving forward despite the challenges I have faced. It has reminded/re-inspired me to keep going and not let things drag me down but pick me up. I know that’s very cliché, but very often, it’s much easier to look back and think how awful something was instead of what you have gained and learnt from that experience. It can then be the challenge to let go and choose to stop the bad things that have happened to you from holding you back and choose to be happy. See one of my early blog posts Why Do We Struggle to Proclaim Our Giraffeness if you want to read more about this.

Some people could see this as ignoring what has happened, not considering the impact that the events have had on you and suppressing those negative thoughts, until eventually, they burst. There is a space for that reflection for sure, but I know if I lived my life in an over-analytical way all the time, I would feel stuck in the same spiral of negativity, struggling to find much joy and make much progress in life.

With my social anxiety for example, it can be easy to hide away in fear of something going wrong. However, this can be unhealthy and can build up unnecessary fear when in reality, interacting with people isn’t as scary as I think. And if I keep practising, the less scary meeting new people and having conversations become and the more prepared I am for it.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope you find it helpful. As always, feel free to get in touch with any questions/feedback/comments, I always like to hear it. Stay tuned for the next instalment.

Until next time
