A 21st century wisdom that I live by is:-
‘sticking fairy lights on anything makes it look better’
I have learnt though that particularly around Christmastime, this can be easier said than done when it comes to everything else going on in our lives. It can be hard to see the light in a long job search, in the disappointment in not achieving what you hope you would, or the uncertainty of what the New Year will bring for example. The almost expected joy that we sing about that we’re supposed to feel can put even more pressure on us.
I am one of the millions I’m sure who are working this Christmas and I have spent some time reflecting on what this year’s Christmas will look like for me. I have realised that we sometimes need help to put fairy lights on things and I am looking forward to hopefully bringing some light to the people that I will be seeing over the Christmas period, both in and out of work. I have also learned more and more that this is part of my Christian faith, to bring Christ’s light into the world in the places I go.
You don’t have to be doing an official role this Christmas to bring light into someone else’s life. It can be a quick phone call to check in on how someone’s doing or bringing your leftovers to someone you know in need or just simply giving someone that reassurance that they are not alone. In summary (and not to sound too cheesy), we can all be a single fairy light in someone’s darkness this Christmas and throughout the rest of the year as well.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and hope you have a bright a Christmas as possible. As always, feel free to get in touch with any questions/feedback/comments, I always love to hear it. Stay tuned for the next instalment.
Until next time
K
