I have talked in a few instalments now about being in a crisis and sometimes a prolonged crisis. It can be easy to only think about what is happening there and then. This has some importance though for your self-awareness and understanding what things affect you.
However, what I have found equally as helpful is looking forward and what can help you in the future. One example that I can think of is something unavoidable in your life that you are not fully comfortable with but you realise that it would be better in the long run to be accepting of it. Of course, having that fuller wisdom by your own means can be difficult. So it can be good to get some outside perspective from others.
Depending on how complicated the situation is, you can set a small number of easier goals or one big goal. Once you have set a goal, it can get you started on thinking about how you are going to achieve the positive outcome. As hard times come, I often need to remind myself of the goals I have set myself to consider what could potentially be a poor decision later and lead to the positive outcome not being achieved. If it helps, writing these goals down and what they are aiming for can be something to come back to when you’re struggling. Or sharing these thoughts with someone you trust to hold you accountable.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope you found that general overview helpful. As always, feel free to get in touch with any questions/feedback/comments, I always love to hear them. Stay tuned for the next instalment.
Until next time
